- A son or daughter aged 18 years or over
If the applicant is the sponsor’s parent or grandparent, they must not be in a relationship with a partner unless the partner is also applying and is the sponsor’s parent or grandparent.
Bringing Extended Family Members to the UK
You cannot bring cousins, nephews, or nieces to the UK on an Adult Dependent visa. This visa is only for immediate family members. For other relatives, consult our specialist immigration solicitors for advice on immigration options.

Visa Fees and Processing Time
The application fee for an Adult Dependent Relative visa in 2023 is £1,048 for applications within the UK and £3,250 for applications from outside the UK. An additional immigration healthcare surcharge of £1,035 per year is also required, plus a £19.20 biometric fee. Processing typically takes around 12 weeks, with an option for a super-priority service at an additional cost.
Duration and Refusal of the Visa
Successful applicants receive indefinite leave to remain. However, applications are often refused if the Home Office determines that the care required can be provided in the home country or if the sponsor lacks adequate financial means or accommodation. If refused, options include appealing to the First-Tier Immigration Tribunal, requesting an administrative review, or submitting a fresh application.
